  • Lyrical power.

I’ve been listening to the band Straylight Run recently.  I got into them back in high school and lately they’ve been coming up on my shuffle.  Their lyrics are so truthful and clear.  They offer real insight into how people experience life. Mainly I feel I can relate to their songs a lot.

One of the songs “It’s for the best” really hits home for me.  Not currently, but I can still relate to it.

“but i was scared to death of eternity
    i was saved by grace
    but destroyed by naivety
    and i lied to myself
and said it was for the best

    …..

and i’ve become content with this life that i lead
where i drink to much and don’t believe in much of anything
    and i lie to myself
and say “it’s for the best.”

we’re moving forward, but holding ourselves back
and we’re waiting on something that will never come”

Anyone who knows me can understand why this holds a lot of meaning for me.

Another song is “Sympathy for the Martyr”

    “Convinced there’s a war and it’s always
    everybody versus you
Convinced that you’re critics are watchin’
    and you’ve always got something,
you’ve always got something to prove

    ….

A laundry list of problems doesn’t make you interesting
and never getting help doesn’t make you brave
Not listening to reason doesn’t mean that you have faith
You’re just cutting off your nose to spite your face”

My favorite line is definitely “never getting help doesn’t make you brave”. I have learned this recently and it’s so true.  Being brave means asking for help.

I love music that I can relate to, and in a positive way.  I like being able to look back at my life, including the bad times and be able to come to terms with what has happened.  Life is about messing up, learning from these mistakes and growing stronger.  It is about moving on when necessary and continuing to live.  It’s taken me a long time to realize this.  But things are changing!

  • Yesterday in my jazz dance class we watched several different videos.  The class was basically a class on how to talk and write about dance.

    This was one of them.
